Lost and Found Department

Do you ever find yourself standing still, looking up at the crossroads of “Lost” and “Found” and wonder which one you are really on? They run against one another, but they do intersect often (or so it seems in my life).

In the natural, I’m always ‘misplacing’ (loosing) things . . . perhaps you can relate:

Cell phone

Thumb drive

Keys

Eyeglasses

Shopping list

Something I purchased

. . . the list can go on and on and on . . . oh, I KNOW they are around – somewhere – but I can’t put my hands on them at the moment I need/want them.

Anyway, I digress.

We can not always readily get a hold of things we want but we can ALWAYS rest assured and be at peace with the ‘found’ department that we have full access to anytime day or night for our spiritual needs! Glory to God!!!

He is as close as the whisper of His Name!

His heart towards us is always ‘yes’ and ‘amen’ (2 Corinthians 1:20)!

His desire for us is a ‘hope and a future’ (Jeremiah 29:11)!

When we take up the position of praise . . . the position of worship . . . the position of the branches CONNECTED to The Vine (John 15). . . we are never ever lost!

Here’s how it can work for you (it works for me and countless others I know)!

  • surrounded by chaos? . . . let His peace be released in your situation dove in flight
  • faced with a bad report (job, personal, medical, financial)? . . . let His peace be released in your situation
  • uncertainties overwhelming you about the things are coming at you and decisions that you must make? . . .  let His peace be released in your situation.
  • too many distractions in your life just now? Get your worship on and allow His peace to be released in your situation!

Am I talking about a change of attitude? Something you need to say or do differently? Well, yes and no . . . it is an internal issue, not an external thing. His peace, that passes ALL understanding is what we must allow to guard our heart and mind (Philippians 2:7)! Only in Him and through Him can we walk in complete victory. He sent His Holy Spirit to indwell our very being and to give us everything we need for this life we now live (2 Peter 1:3).

Dear ones, learn to cast all your cares upon Him, and simply TRUST Him with every single aspect of your life . . . no one loves and cares for you more than He does!

Worship When Wounded

There is ONLY one thing for me to do . . .

I fall down on my face
in worship to my King!
He ALONE has the answers
to make this wounded heart SING
No matter what I am facing
nor whatever lays ahead
His glory there surrounds me
erasing all that was said.

Words can wound us deeply
and, yes, tears may appear
but I choose to trust Him fully
as He whispers LOVE into my ear

He ALONE is my everything
my heart’s desire, my breath, my song
In Him I take my refuge
It is there I belong

Oh my Father, My Abba
thank You for loving me
You bring strength, peace and comfort
that completely set me free

Free from things that tear apart
the lining of my soul
the words, the looks, the actions
melt away as You make me whole

I love You, my dearest Savior
in You I find my rest
Your joy wells up once again
as to You I will give my best

Ignoring those around me
and focusing on only You
I will continue going forward
and I know You’ll see me through

I desire to bring You honor
I desire to bring You glory
I desire to serve You always
I want THAT to be my story . . .

. . . she always brought Him honor
. . . she always brought Him glory
. . . she served the Lord, always
. . . regardless of life’s story!

Situations and circumstances
good and bad they will come
what we choose to DO with them
and how we overcome –

THAT is all that matters
when we stand before His Throne
Did I press through in victory?
Did I cling to Him, alone?

Oh, my precious Abba,
hear my heart’s cry
and hold me every gently
and I’ll try not to question, ‘why’

So I bow down now before You,
and worship You from deep within
You are most worthy – Lord
You ARE the Great I AM!

This antique picture hangs in my living room – over 20 years ago I also wrote a song based on my feelings over having this wonderful picture in my home – “Clinging to the Cross”

When the tempest rages against us

and we’re tossing to and fro

we must always remember

that to the Savior we can go

He is ever near us

to comfort and to guide

and all our deepest sorrows

from Him we need not hide

His love is never ending

His grace will never run out

In Him we have everything

Of this there is NO doubt!

No matter what your need may be

Protection from fear, He is near

Provision of food, He gives, He is good

For health, for sadness, and every pain

He is our ALL – He is our gain

Our gain of life and all it brings

Peace, joy, love, a heart that sings

No matter what may come our way

He is always our Hope and Stay

No need to doubt, worry, fear

No need to cry out, our hearts He will hear

When there are no words for us to speak

He IS our strength when we are weak

When you – I Feel – Because

Ever stand around wondering what in the world other people are thinking? I mean, they speak words that seem not to fit situations and / or actions that speak louder than words and they don’t pertain to anything that has taken place – like they pulled things right out of the air?

Do you try to solve things by getting back into their face and matching them word for word, action for action?

image from affirmation.org

image from affirmation.org

Or do you step back and decide to have open discussions to get things out in the open – clear up any confusion – try to strategically plan a better way?

Here is something very helpful I learned back in school when studying to become a Biblical Counselor – a very simple set of phrases to use together:

When you . . .

“say, such and such” or “do, such and such”

I feel . . .

“hurt” “angry” “wounded” “degraded” “disrespected” “lost” “left out” (fill in whatever is appropriate to your actual feelings)

Because . . .

– here you explain why you are having those feelings/reactions to their words or behaviors –

Using this type of formula helps to gently clear the air – without BLAME – because you are ‘owning’ your feelings and your reaction to the situation. Many times we tend to say things like “you make me so . . . ” and that is putting the other person on the defensive right away because you are blaming them for how you are feeling. No one has any control over how you ‘feel’. Yes, things they say or do may cause certain feelings to arise within us, but it is our ‘choice’ as to what we do with those feelings.

If situations continue to present themselves over and over and over, perhaps it is time to sit down and openly discuss it, but by using this type of terminology, owning your feelings as yours, but helping them understand what is triggering it; that you are struggling with the whole thing, and come up with a solution as to how to work together in a different way so that this is rectified.

It is not an easy thing – in fact – you may expect to encounter even more conflict – however – ALWAYS cover conversations with prayer FIRST – BEFORE you approach the person about the situations. Remember, (Ps 59:16-17, Ps 62:2, Ps 94:22) God IS our defense! and . . . we can do ALL things through Christ (Phil 4:13) and that includes living and walking in love towards all people through all situations, being at peace with everyone (1 Thes 5:13).

Oh PLEASE!!!

Published May 26, 2015 by birdieklh

Sometimes we must go where we do not desire to go, do what we do not wish to do, listen to what we absolutely do NOT want to hear . . . but, if we are walking in obedience to the One who holds our lives in His hands, then He gives us what we need to accomplish that which He has put before us.

We were never promised an easy path – what He said is that His yoke is easy and His burden light – what exactly does that mean, if not that we are to have it easy? It means that we don’t have to carry it, walk it, live it in our OWN strength . . . but His – for He has already conquered all things!

In fact . . . if we expect easy, we go against His Word because Paul tells us in Ephesians that we are in a war – a spiritual battle! Sometimes it actually seems that we are being bombarded right and left, frontwards and backwards, up and down – completely surrounded, standing alone on the open battle field with no shelter of protection to be found. We ‘feel’ the attacks as they hit, and they are so painful, we believe that we might not make it, but we do. Sometimes we need to plug our spiritual ears to the thoughts that the enemy throws at us noise . . . replace those negative thoughts with the Truth that God’s Word says about us and about the situation . . . then to allow ourselves to CHOOSE to give Him praise through the battle.

“but I can’t”, you say . . .

“it’s too hard” . . .

“you don’t understand!”

“There have been too many obstacles to overcome, I can’t!”

or “I have lost so much, I can not go on!”

These are all tactical lies of the enemy!!! Don’t go there! Do NOT allow these thoughts to float around in your mind – he may throw them at you, but do not let them in – if you focus on them, he will win and you will be knocked down, over, out, etc. REPLACE them with the TRUTH!!!

Get your praise on – worship Him – no matter how you feel! You can trust Him completely!!! Run to Him, cling to Him, rest in Him!

No one loves you more than He does!

No one desires for you to go forward in strength and victory than Him!

No one is pulling for you more than Him!

It is His heart to rejoice over you with singing! (“The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 NIV) Think about that!!!

You are a joy to Him – He created you for a purpose . . . He sees your potential and He is there to help you achieve it . . . He already won that battle for you . . . so turn your noise, your trials, your struggles, your frustrations, your depression, your sicknesses, your _________________________ (fill in the blank) . . . and be victorious in Him!

From Funk to FOG

Published July 5, 2014 by birdieklh

funkMiriam Webster’s says one of the Definitions of FUNK (as a noun) is:

1
a : a state of paralyzing fear
b : a depressed state of mind
2
: one that funks : coward
3
: slump 1 Origin of FUNK

perhaps from obsolete Dutch dialect (Flanders) fonck
First Known Use: 1743

An amazing thing . . . the other day I found myself saying to my husband . . . “I feel as though I am in a funk and can’t get out.” (this is NOT a normal state of being/state of mind for me, by the way)

This morning, in one of the numerous devotional tools we use in our study times together, we read about how sometimes people (Christians) allow themselves to get into a ‘funk or a fog’, about being in a place ‘where our emotions are exhausted.’ Well . . . immediately I had to chuckle to myself because to me . . . fog is SO different than ‘hazy or clouded’ which is what I am sure this dear brother meant. As most of you know . . . FOG to me is the Favor Of  God. And, that got my mind going towards this blog for today.

Bad days, drained moments, frustrated feelings will come our way. These are a part of this thing we all “life”. However, we do not need to stay there . . . we do not need to dwell upon those things which are trying to weigh us down, creating a ‘funk’. Sure, that is the goal of our enemy – if he can drag us down into the mire of depression, or fear; if he can get us to cower away from the things that God has asked us to do, he becomes a very happy camper. We don’t want that now do we?! Of course not. He does NOT win . . . we do . . . we already have, through Christ. Remember those words our Lord spoke on Calvary? “IT IS FINISHED”?! Those words meant it is all over, done, complete, finished, the battle won, end of story! We ARE victorious because of Jesus! That includes the mind games, emotional traumas that the devil tries to plant in our brain!!!

We need to remember this at all times . . . when we are in Christ, He is in us, and He is GREATER than the one who is warring against us! And, as we are walking daily with our Lord, we have His divine favor resting upon us. We walk in the FOG . . . where He gives us every good and perfect gift . . . where our soul prospers as well as other aspects of our life (family, health, relationships, finances). Prosperity does not always mean (in the spiritual realm) ‘wealth’, but it does mean stability and peace in every area!

It is through this realization of our position in Christ (Him in us, us in Him, Holy Spirit indwelling us and guiding us daily) that we grow ever stronger in our faith. Our walk becomes purposeful – we exemplify hope and joy and peace to those around us. How much more pleasant it is to be around someone full of the joy of the Lord than it is to be around someone who is so down and listless.

How is this realization obtained? Through being in the Word, in prayer and in fellowship with other believers. By finding out what the Word says about who we ARE, then (as shared in yesterday’s blog “I am NOT, I AM”) speaking that Word over yourself on are a regular basis. Allowing It to penetrate your being until It becomes a part of you. You will know, that you know, that you KNOW who you truly are in Christ! And you will understand that NOTHING, “neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

I’m choosing to step out of the funk and into the FOG . . . care to join me?!

Beyond Frustration

Published June 20, 2014 by birdieklh

Okay . . . I confess . . . today I am posting a blog late . . . didn’t even ‘feel’ like posting one, to be honest.

Why?! FRUSTRATION

I can hear your thoughts . . . “that’s not very encouraging” – “isn’t this the gal who always exemplifies positive?” – “Oh NO! I come here to be uplifted, nudged along in my faith . . . if she’s having a bad day . . . who’s going to help me now?”

All I can say is “I’m sorry.”

I have to be open and honest. I have to speak truth.

God’s Truth is constant – He never changes. Me, on the other hand,I  have not yet arrived at that “perfect all the time” stage.

If I were to come and post another “everything is beautiful” blog on a day like today, where there have been more ‘sighs’, more ‘tears’, more ‘attitudes’ (like throwing something, although I have not) and full to overflowing with frustration after frustration, then I would not be speaking truthfully.

Yes, I still believe and KNOW that God IS in control.

Yes, I know that His joy is my strength.

Yes, it is still true that He is my refuge, my shelter in the times of storm, and . . .

yes . . . I am going to Him (have gone to Him quite often throughout this chaotic day) – my faith is consistent even in the middle of such storms, but it doesn’t mean that I am exempt from the lightening strikes that sometimes hit me hard.

Anyway . . . I know that blogs are expected of me, and I didn’t want to let anyone down, especially my Lord . . . so here it is.

I am speaking to myself – as well as you – to “not lose heart” . . . God has not left, has not abandoned, has not taken away His hand over our lives. We will have moments in this life where things don’t go according to plan. Jesus told his disciples that very thing in John 16:33, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” ( NKJV)

Now, we KNOW these things will happen from time to time – these things being various ‘bad’ days, frustrating moments, shattered dreams, loss, etc. So, we boil back down to choices. The choices of how to deal with these things when they happen. Jesus answered THAT also . . . see His words, “be of good cheer”? S I G H . . . yep . . . I certainly didn’t get that part of today’s lesson right, that’s for sure. Oops! Like I said, I’m not to that perfect stage yet, are you? If you are, please, enlighten me!

Okay, so here I am . . . encouraging myself, trying to still be positive for you . . . needing to repent of not ‘being of good cheer’ today, ouch! Hate when that happens. Why do I allow myself to get there? In that frustrated state? It snuck its way in and I guess I opened up the door and played welcoming hostess to it today somehow.

Abba Father, I am SO very sorry for allowing the attitude of my heart to be other than what You desire it to be. Forgive me for dropping my guard an allowing the enemy to get in. Frustration is NOT in Your plan. I honestly do not know how or when I let my defenses down, when I lowered my shield of faith today, but I have it back up now, and am praising You for that Helmet of Salvation and the Breastplate of Righteousness that saved my bacon today. Thank You for Your Word which has my feet ready – it’s in my spirit and it is active, that Sword of the Spirit, cutting away the wrong I’ve done today with my thought patterns and emotions, guiding me now, leading me back into the way I am to walk with you. In joy and peace, not in frustration – thank You for forgiveness. Thank You for restoration. Thank You for loving me, holding me close, and bringing comfort to my wounded soul. I exult Your Name on High – I give You praise – I honor You, I pour out my love and gratitude upon You, in Jesus Mighty Name – all glory goes to You – amen and amen.
