What is joy, actually? To me it is that inner contentment in the face of all things; the assurance of my salvation; the assurance that God is in complete control and I only need to abide in His presence.
There is another VITAL aspect to our having joy on a continual basis . . . it is our dearest Deposit (Holy Spirit) from our Bridegroom (Jesus)! Acts 13:52 says, very simply, “And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.” NIV
There is a footnote in The Full Life Study Bible, by Zondervan Publishing House (pg 1677) that says, “FILLED…WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. The Greek verb translated ‘filled’ is in the imperfect tense, expressing continued action in past time. The disciples were being continually filled and empowered day by day. The Spirit’s fullness is not merely a one-time initial experience, but a life of renewed fillings for God-given needs and tasks.”
There are many out there who do not even acknowledge The Holy Spirit as an active part of their Christian walk, this is a very sad thing. According to Scripture, how can we truly experience the fullness of joy that God desires to impart to us? Holy Spirit IS the One who opens the Word of God up to our hearts to understand! He is the one who is always within us, for comfort, strength, guidance. How can we ignore Him?
Jesus told his disciples that He would not leave them alone, but that He had to leave in order for The Holy Spirit to come to be with them. It would be through His POWER, through the finished work of Jesus on Calvary, and that precious Name above all Names that they were to go forth and minister to others.
Dear ones, we need to love GOD, completely – Abba Father, Who loved us SO much that He sent His Son, Jesus to take our place on the cross for reconciliation with The Father, and Holy Spirit, Who is the One that is with us every day, through everything that we face! It is through our daily times of worship, prayer, praise, study and LISTENING, that we are filled with that joy. Let us be filled, continually. Let His joy overflow. Let His power flow. Let us walk in the FOG (the Favor Of God)and be world changers!
