One day, as my husband was flipping through radio stations, I heard these words from an old song, “Darling, if you want me to be closer to you, get closer to me.” No matter what else we listened to, I could not get these words out of my heart. I even remember shaking my head and asking the Lord to help me focus on Him instead of these words, apologizing for allowing these words to keep running through my brain instead of a worship or praise song! But . . . I heard Him say, “listen.” That was a bit of a shock to me, but I listened, and the words were slightly different, bringing another whole meaning with it . . . “Daughter, if you want Me to be closer to you, draw closer to Me.”
For quite a while after that I let the words flow through me the way He changed them. There is a hunger within, a deep yearning for an even closer walk with Him . . . and, He is the Unchanging One. He is the same, yesterday, today and forever (Heb 13:8). If we desire to have a closer relationship with Him, WE are the ones that need to do the moving! Holy Spirit draws us . . . we need to do the seeking!
