All of us have had times where everything is right with the world. God is good! You know what? God is good ALL the time! Even when we are struggling! I want us to dive into Scripture today, and apply it to our difficult times. Psalm 57 is full of David’s own struggling time and his cry out to God; he knew the greatness and goodness of God and that if he was able to pour out his heart before Him, and continue to worship Him, all would be well.
“Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in You my soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of Your wings until the disaster has passed.” Vs 1 We need not be afraid of sharing our heart with the Lord, He already knows everything . . . like we desire our children to share their deepest feelings, He (our loving Father) desires to hear our deepest feelings – good and/or bad!
David goes on in this Psalm to share a bit more about his situation, but breaks it up by reminding himself about the goodness of God – examples:
“…God sends His love and His faithfulness.” Vs 3b
“Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let Your glory be over all the earth.” Vs 5 & 11
“For great is Your love, reaching to the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.” Vs 10
He makes the decision to worship the Lord even though his life is unraveling and falling apart – example:
“My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music.” Vs 7
“I will praise You, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of You among the peoples.” Vs 9
Bottom line . . . when struggles come, when the storm rages, when the darkness seems to overwhelm us . . . CHANGE YOUR FOCUS! . . . remember the goodness of God and His great love for us. Focus on Him, not the circumstances; continue to worship Him for Who He IS!!! Taking shelter in the ‘shadow of His wings’, spending time in His presence, letting Him minister to you as you pour out your love and worship (and concerns) to Him, will bring peace, comfort and strength on toward the victory!
“In this world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (Jesus) – see John 16:33
