“‘The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,’” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: that if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. As the Scripture says, ‘anyone who trusts in Him will never be put to shame.’ For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile – the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on Him, for, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” Romans 10:8b-13
Paul was speaking here to the early church. There were no denominations, just those who were born as Jews and the rest of the world, the Gentiles. The same principle applies to us, today, with our various denominations. Denominations are man-made institutions – God, through Jesus Christ (The Rock) is the One who established His Church! ALL who believe on Him are saved; therefore, it matters not what name is on the door of the church, if it is a Bible believing, teaching church, there is NO difference in our salvation!
With that in mind, let us ask ourselves some questions:
Why is there a lack of unity between the churches?
Why are not all pastors getting together with other pastors in their areas to pray for the city, their government, their schools, one another? To be a support system for one another, encouraging them as they work TOGETHER to expand the Kingdom of God?
Why do we have ‘stigma’s’ and ‘prejudices’ against various churches?
Why are there still ‘prejudices’ against our brothers and sisters of another culture or color of skin?
We need to remember that when God looks down upon those of us who have accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, He does not see ‘color’ or ‘labels’, He sees the Blood of His Son, Jesus, and His robe of righteousness that now covers us. Again, as Paul said, “for there is NO difference between” . . . how dare WE continue to make differences?! We need to pray for one another – love one another – worship together . . .
I, personally, praise God that we have made some major steps in this area. Many churches are becoming multi-cultural, and that to the Glory of God. But, there is still a religious stronghold over many that continues to keep holding back true unity among all believers, those that may worship slightly different than ourselves.
Father, God, help us to overcome and tear down this stronghold and become the true Church You have called us to be. Amen.
