We have this concept that as we have great things ahead of us we need to step up and into ‘bigger shoes’ in order to fulfill it. . .well, I always had that concept . . .
However . . . the other day the Lord had me looking up the meaning of some names (specifically the leaders of the Twelve Tribes) and just as they ended, I saw the next chapter spoke about King Saul. So, I looked up Saul (just because) and saw that HIS name meant “desired”. Well, that got me thinking about Saul of Tarsus . . . who the Lord reached out to in a very unusual way . . . a way that left Saul with a NEW name and absolutely NO question in his mind Who and why . . .
I felt compelled to look up his new name, Paul, as well. It means “small, little.” WOW! What a contrast! But . . . “Lord,” I ask, “what does this all denote?” Whew! the answer into my spirit was profound, and I desire to share it with you.
- We often do the wrong things for the right reason – we are zealous, like Saul was, but our eyes are blinded to the REAL Truth that we should be following after/working for.
- We are doing things (for the Kingdom, we believe) but we think too highly of ourselves (because we are ‘doing’ work and seeing results – but are they the results God wants?), Romans 12:3 NKJV “For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.”
- His desire for us (the plans He has for us, the job/tasks/ministry, etc) are often missed because we do not humble ourselves before Him and truly seek His will and His way!
Dear ones, God has a plan, a purpose, a destiny for each and every one of us. He had it in mind for us before He created us in our mother’s womb! Yet, how many of us are running around, living our lives as Saul (desire) yet missing IT because we are zealous in the wrong way? Or we are patting ourselves on our own back for accomplishing something while at the same time God is desiring us to be SO much MORE! The key (if you will) that unlocks our destiny; the absolute call He has on our lives, is to allow Him to change our name (our heart) to Paul . . . become small, become little!
Remember, even John the Baptist recognized this fact! John 3:30 NKJV “He must increase, but I must decrease.”
Paul, in his dramatic encounter, completely humbled himself. He sought out more knowledge of Who Christ IS and His plan for his life. He submitted himself to the guidance of others who had actually walked with the Lord (laying aside his ‘high’ education). He listened, he learned, then in that place of smallness, God was able to do GREAT things. The great things He had desired of him and for him when He had first given him the name Saul (desire)!
When we concede our will to His; when we put aside all our ‘learning, knowledge, ideas, etc.’ and acquiesce to Holy Spirit’s guidance – then, ah yes, then we are ready for Him to use us for His glory and for the furthering of His Kingdom!
Abba Father, change our hearts – we humble ourselves before Your Throne, realizing that You desire so much more for us. Forgive us for doing so much ‘work’ for You instead of letting You work THROUGH us. Abba, change our name from Saul to Paul – do a work deep inside of us – a work that is established in Heaven, brought down to earth to have a mighty impact for Your Kingdom. Help us to get out of the way and allow You to have Your perfect will in and through our lives. for Your Glory, amen and amen.
