There are going to be times in our lives when storm clouds rise up; when winds blow uncontrollably; when the ‘thunder’ of life is roaring so loudly that we hardly can hear oursleves think. What is our normal response to these ‘storms’?
1. We rant and rave, often towards someone close to us, as if it was their fault, or as if they should / could DO something to change it.
2. We run away and try to ‘hide’ or ‘ride-out’ the storm, hoping it won’t touch us.
3. We fall apart completely, crying ‘whoa is me’, questioning “why, Lord?!”
What should we do? Very simply . . .
“Be STILL and KNOW that I am God.”
Remember that, like the disciples who were IN the boat WITH Jesus (while He slept), we can turn to Him for help with any storm that comes against us! “He (Jesus) got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.” Mark 4:39
What does that really mean – be still?
Sleep? perhaps . . .
Taking time away from your ‘busy-ness’? most likely . . .
Getting quiet before the Lord, with your spirit ears at full attention to Holy Spirit for guidance? Y E S !
It is not always easy to do so, but it is essential that we do! You see, dear ones, we can so easily get caught up in the ‘busy’ (yes, even in ministry work!) that we miss out on the Source of our very existence! And when we do, the storms clouds that gather, the winds that blow, that thunder that roars, all seem to be completely overwhelming – threatening our peace – robbing us of our joy – capsizing our dreams, hopes, future . . .
S T O P !
Remember that He NEVER changes and that He is ever present! Don’t allow yourself to become like that ‘seed’ which allowed the weeds to choke the life out of it! (Mark 4:18-19)
Keep your eyes, your spirit, your heart, upon Jesus – upon Who He IS and who you are IN Him. Realize the victory in ALL things is already yours and with your feet firmly planted, stand firm, be still and with NO fear or uncertainty allow Him to speak to your storm “BE STILL.”
As WE are obedient, and still before Him, trusting in and relying on Him, He will do the rest . . . turn your troubles into triumphs by turning your questions into praises of His goodness! Remind yourself of all He has brought you through in the past – worship Him for Who He IS and you will find yourself lost in His presence as all else around you becomes but a fading mist instead of a mighty storm!
