Closing Out 2014

Tis that time once again . . . saying goodbye to one year . . . closing the door on all that transpired in our lives during the past 365 days and preparing to start fresh on the morrow . . .

What are you saying goodbye to?

Are you one of those who is ever so grateful for it to be ‘over’?

Or, are you one that is sad to see it end?

Regardless of where our emotions stand on the subject, the calendar will indeed be turned over as the clock of our lives continues to tick forward.

The Apostle Paul tells us “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead” Philippians 3:13 – in other words – we are not to dwell (live in) the past things, no matter how wonderful OR how horrible! God is always calling us forward . . . desiring us to grow spiritually, maturing into the mighty men and women of valor He has created us to be.

I believe that what God desires of us is a change of focus – a change of mind-set. We are to know beyond any shadow of any doubt that God IS in control. That He has a future, plan and a hope for each and everyone of us. We can truly love and appreciate all of the many blessings we received during 2014, just as we can be grateful for all that He brought us through that was anything but a ‘blessing’ – the hurt, the pain, the sickness, the disappointment, etc. BUT – let us press on in great expectation of all that He has in store for us in the days ahead.

Dear ones – this is a time to reflect upon His goodness – His grace – His love – His provision – His protection – His guidance . . . a time of praise, worship and adoration to The One Who was and IS and is to come! That coming is approaching us ever quickly now . . . the signs are everywhere . . . let us ‘strain toward what is ahead’ . . .  with hearts overflowing with gratitude – that He is our God – that He reigns supreme – that we belong to Him and He is leading us every step of the way – we have no need to fear, only rejoice as we see His approaching is drawing nearer day by day. Oh, let this night be a time of celebrating who He is – ever faithful – ever true – ever present. Let us be grateful for all the times we went through this past year, as they were times for our growth. And let us, as we turn the calendar, welcome in a new time of growth . . . let us enter into a deeper, richer, more powerful walk with our Mighty King!

GOODBYE 2014 – I’ve had many blessings this year, and many sorrows, but I have The One Constant, ALL Loving Savior Who has been right there leading and guiding me . . . I am ever grateful and I, for one, look forward with excitement and anticipation to all that He has in store for me starting tomorrow when the calendar turns.

The “Christmas” Word . . .

Published December 22, 2014 by birdieklh

Oh, Lord, forgive us!!!

We are a fallen nation –

We have forgotten our place as ‘one nation under God’ – being an example of YOU to the world!

This is what we have fallen to . . . punishing those who would mention Your Name during this season where we are to put aside conflicts and celebrate You and Your great love for mankind . . .

Oh, Lord, forgive us!!!

This is not a ‘cute’ little comic . . . this, sadly, represents the reality of life in the world right now . . .

I am sitting here in tears over this photo, realizing that it is all too true in our schools, in our offices, in our workplaces . . . and, all I can cry out is:

Oh, Lord, forgive us!!!

Will YOU stand with me and continue to speak of Christ in Christmas?!?

‘Tis The Season?

Nativity scenes come in all shapes and sizes. I remember as a child, growing up in California, each year we would take a drive to a place my parents called “Christmas Card Lane”. Of course, that wasn’t the name of the street – in fact – they were whole neighborhoods.

There were lights. There were huge Christmas cards lit up on the front lawns full of messages of the Hope that was brought to earth at the birth of baby Jesus – many (if not most) had a nativity scene. It was an event that we all looked so forward to seeing.

Nowadays, when one drives around neighborhoods full of lights and such, you will find Santa, Reindeer, Elves, Cartoon Characters, Snowmen, Stockings, Toys, Bright Blinking Lights, even music  . . . and . . .  once in a while . . . a very rare nativity will show itself.

How very sad that we, a Nation that developed by people who desired to put God first above all else, have let the Christ Child slowly disappear from CHRISTmas!!! He IS the focus . . . we are celebrating HIS birth (although most of us realize that this wasn’t the actual date of His birth, it is the one chosen to celebrate it).

How can we have allowed this to happen?!!?

Shame on us!

I’m sitting here at my keyboard listening to Barlow Girl singing “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” and I am almost in tears as I recall these CHRIST-centered Christmas songs being sung by children and teachers alike in the schools. I remember when the school Christmas Programs WOULD include the reading and acting out Luke 2 – with shepherds, angels, kings, Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. The audience would stand and join in singing “Joy to the World, The Lord has Come!” and “Oh Little Town of Bethlehem.” Now, if there even is a program at this time of year it is things like “Jingle Bells” or “Rudolph” or “Frosty the Snowman” – not that these songs aren’t fun, but they are NOT the focus of the season!

Oh, I’m not against sharing the spirit of giving – the story of St. Nicholas and/or Kris Kringle with their loving hearts towards bringing happiness to children – but with the truth of them being a ‘nice tradition’ to pass along while completely emphasizing the TRUE meaning of Christmas!

The Evergreen – Christmas Tree – representing everlasting life. The star atop / or the angel – both announcing the birth of The One Who brings us everlasting life.

How my heart breaks over NOT hearing CHRIST-centered Christmas songs playing in the stores and/or restaurants we visit! I don’t want to hear about Grandma being run over by a reindeer . . .  I want to hear “Hark The Herald Angels Sing” or “Oh Holy Night”!!! This is what my heart longs for – my deepest longing is for others to experience not only the Christ-child we celebrate being born, but to KNOW Him as He IS . . . our Lord, our Savior; Lover of our soul!  Again, all I can say is:

How can we have allowed this to happen?!!?

Shame on us!

Here is my “Christmas Card” to my neighborhood . . .

I want all to know that I have not forgotten . . . and I am proud to share Jesus with everyone . . . He IS the reason for the season!

Jesus IN Revelation

Published December 15, 2014 by birdieklh

I LOVE December’s Bible Study times . . . John’s book of Revelation is such a marvelous way to end out the year . . . full of such HOPE . . .

Today, let us focus on WHO Jesus IS as stated throughout this wonderful book.

Chapter 1:

In verse 8 we learn that He IS The Almighty, The Alpha and The Omega (beginning and the end), and our Lord God.

In verse 17 we learn that He IS The First and The Last.

In verse 18 He IS The Living One.

Chapter 2, verse 18, tell us that He IS The Son of  God.

Chapter 3, verse 14, reminds us that He IS The Faithful and True Witness.

Chapter 5:

In verse 5 He is described as The Lion of the Tribe of Judah and The Root of Jesse.

In verse 6 we learn that He IS The Lamb.

Chapter 7, verse 17, reminds us that He IS our great Shepherd.

Chapter 12, verse 10 declares that He IS (The) Christ.

Chapter 19:

He IS Faithful and True in 19:11.

He IS The Word of God, verse 13.

He IS The King of Kings and The Lord of Lords, verse 16.

Chapter 22, verse 16 declares that He IS The Morning Star!

~   W  O  W    ~

Meditate on Who He IS . . . reflect on the TRUE meaning of this Christmas season . . . the very HOPE we have in Him Who was and IS and is to come!!!!

“Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow”

Published December 10, 2014 by birdieklh

Time is all too quickly coming to an end, which means having too say farewell to loved ones…URRGH!

But, it truly has been a most wonderful time if fellowship. And, Lord willing, we will have more visits ahead…if not…we WILL have all eternity together with Christ!

Are YOU ready to say farewell to someone you love? Do YOU have the assurance of sharing eternity with them if circumstances are such that a physical reuniting on earth isn’t possible? If you don’t, but would like to, call 800-NEED-HIM. Someone is waiting to help you meet Jesus!
