Relationships . . . God and us . . . Husband and Wife . . .
**”We say, ‘It’s nobody’s business but mine, as long as I don’t violate Scripture.’ Wrong! You can follow the letter of the Word but violate its Spirit. Paul said, ‘Everything is permissible – but not everything is beneficial’ (1 Corinthians 10:23 NIV). Yes, you can do it, but somebody else may end up being hurt. God has a higher law than that of ‘my rights’; it’s the law of love! He cares ”when you use your freedom carelessly in a way that leads a Christian to be thrown off track’ (1 Corinthians 8:9 TM) What should you do? ‘Do nothing from selfishness. . . regard one another as more important than yourselves.’ (Philippians 2:3 NAS).” ** [from Unity Without Uniformity (2); Wednesday November 12, 2014 devotional – page 42 – “The Word For You Today”]
The title that Holy Spirit prompted me to use was “Let’s Talk About Sex” . . . hmmmm . . . I thought perhaps (once I understood what He wanted me to write). . . “What’s The Big Deal About Sex?”, but He said “NO.” Okay, so how about, “The Truth About Sex” . . . He didn’t say “yes” and He didn’t say “no” so I honestly do not know what to call it. Can you imagine ME posting (links flying everywhere) “Let’s Talk About Sex”? Really? But . . . out of obedience, I will put down what I’ve been instructed to do, and leave the title as a “sub title” for people to see once they get into the blog itself.
Let’s Talk About Sex
- Sex is:
- for having children
- an expression of your love in a physical way
- the most intimate of contact between husband and wife, to express your complete unity
This is a gift from God – it IS (within the perimeters of marriage – the way God intended it/created it) a strengthening, unifying, delightful, fulfilling way to express our love one to another – and to reproduce ourselves (procreate – part of the husband and part of the wife) though the process of conception and birth. Then, in raising our children God teaches us how to better understand His love (unconditional) towards us. In our marriages, He also teaches us how He loves us – the sacrificial giving of oneself to another. However, sadly, most people do not see that aspect of marriage and they end up (many times) tossing aside their marriage when the times get tough. True love – in marriage, in parenting, in a Christian – does not give up, does not fail, does not quit – but I am getting off the point that God wishes me to share.
~ Stalling again, I guess ~
The point was this . . .
A. Sex was for reproduction
- When God created man, took woman from his side, it was so they would not be alone – they were to be together to care for and fill the earth . . . together . . . AS A COUPLE
B. Sex was for a man and woman
- – a woman and a woman can NOT reproduce
– a man and a man can NOT reproduce
Now, let’s take an HONEST look at this ‘act’ . . . in the most active marriages, especially early on in the marriage, there may be a once a day or once every other day time for this expression of our love. Perhaps a couple of hours together in intimacy . . . but in reality . . . even the most enjoyable, sexually active, adoring expressions of this intimacy are only a couple time a week and last 20-45 minutes – remember I did say ‘honest look’.
So – with that honest remark out in the open – let us reflect on THESE question:
- Why do we (people – society) put SO MUCH emphasis on sex?!
- Why does government try to make LAWS in regards to this thing that, in actuality only takes up such a very small percentage of our lives?
- Newly married – taking the higher estimate would be 6 hours/week which would be 3.56% of a whole year
- Normal married relationship – estimating approx. 30 minutes twice a week would be 1 hour/week which would be only .59% of a whole year
- Why are WE (*as Christians) NOT standing up against these things? Something so minute should NOT be allowed to set statues and laws that govern our society!
The references used here are for within marriages . . . perhaps in regards to what society is looking at with it’s emphasis on “sexual preferences” we should change some terminology. Let’s say ‘relationships’. (Some people DO put more ‘time’ into their sexual activities, but the percentages are still minuscule in reality of life in general.)
Relationships that are outside of marriage – whether between a man and a woman, a man and a man, a woman and a woman, a person and an animal (yes, I went there!) are wrong based upon God’s Holy Word – The Bible!
WAIT ONE MOMENT, PLEASE!
Does God not love everybody? YES He does!
Do we as Christians love everybody (even those who are not living according to The Word of God)? No, not all, but we SHOULD!
We are to extend God’s love to all – allowing Holy Spirit to guide our words and actions in a caring, nurturing, encouraging way – but we are NOT to water down The Truths of His Word!
For example – if someone rapes and murders a child . . . we abhor them . . . do we? No, we abhor what the person DID, but he/she is still a person that Jesus came and died for!
It is the same for ALL PEOPLE! We are to love them into His Kingdom! Pray for them, speak His truth in Love – disciple them in the ways of God, lovingly! Allow Holy Spirit to do HIS work in their lives. It is not up to us to ridicule, condemn OR transform them . . . it IS our responsibility to love them and point them in the direction of God’s plan for their lives WITHOUT condemnation.
The main reason Holy Spirit prompted me to share this was so that we can wake up and get a reality check on what we are allowing our nation to do . . . set up laws, restrictions, regulations, etc. that are in reality not such a big deal! I mean really, we might as well let them regulate how long we can brush our teeth, or take to eat a meal.
What is wrong is that we are not representing Truth in Love . . . we (if we speak out at all) come across as hateful, hurtful, haughty, superior, and the like . . . that is NOT what LOVE is . . . remember???? Go back and study 1 Corinthians 13!!!! Are we living like that . . . are we being true imitators of Christ . . . walking in His Love towards others? If we truly were, we would not allow these little things to become magnified so greatly that laws start being written . . . those are tools of the enemy to keep people in darkness!
– End Note –
In sharing this article with my husband, he shared with me a news article he had just read on line about a lady losing her business/home/property all because she refused to serve (as a florist) a gay marriage ceremony. Perhaps this blog is ‘too late’ for some . . . perhaps it won’t make a difference at all – I pray that is not so – but, in obedience to what God has asked me to do, I am posting this after struggling with even writing it for days now. We DO need to take a FIRM STAND (as Paul tells us in Ephesians 6, “having done all, to stand, stand firm therefore . . . “) but the way in which we stand needs to be stronger – we ARE (I believe with all my heart and soul) living in the ‘end of the age’ and that means that there will be times when we may even face loss, imprisonment, persecution, even death for what we believe. I for one intend to stand firm to the end – with the Lord’s help – and that is why I chose to be obedient and write this difficult piece. I pray He uses it for His glory. Karin
