perhaps from obsolete Dutch dialect (Flanders) fonck

An amazing thing . . . the other day I found myself saying to my husband . . . “I feel as though I am in a funk and can’t get out.” (this is NOT a normal state of being/state of mind for me, by the way)
This morning, in one of the numerous devotional tools we use in our study times together, we read about how sometimes people (Christians) allow themselves to get into a ‘funk or a fog’, about being in a place ‘where our emotions are exhausted.’ Well . . . immediately I had to chuckle to myself because to me . . . fog is SO different than ‘hazy or clouded’ which is what I am sure this dear brother meant. As most of you know . . . FOG to me is the Favor Of God. And, that got my mind going towards this blog for today.
Bad days, drained moments, frustrated feelings will come our way. These are a part of this thing we all “life”. However, we do not need to stay there . . . we do not need to dwell upon those things which are trying to weigh us down, creating a ‘funk’. Sure, that is the goal of our enemy – if he can drag us down into the mire of depression, or fear; if he can get us to cower away from the things that God has asked us to do, he becomes a very happy camper. We don’t want that now do we?! Of course not. He does NOT win . . . we do . . . we already have, through Christ. Remember those words our Lord spoke on Calvary? “IT IS FINISHED”?! Those words meant it is all over, done, complete, finished, the battle won, end of story! We ARE victorious because of Jesus! That includes the mind games, emotional traumas that the devil tries to plant in our brain!!!
We need to remember this at all times . . . when we are in Christ, He is in us, and He is GREATER than the one who is warring against us! And, as we are walking daily with our Lord, we have His divine favor resting upon us. We walk in the FOG . . . where He gives us every good and perfect gift . . . where our soul prospers as well as other aspects of our life (family, health, relationships, finances). Prosperity does not always mean (in the spiritual realm) ‘wealth’, but it does mean stability and peace in every area!
It is through this realization of our position in Christ (Him in us, us in Him, Holy Spirit indwelling us and guiding us daily) that we grow ever stronger in our faith. Our walk becomes purposeful – we exemplify hope and joy and peace to those around us. How much more pleasant it is to be around someone full of the joy of the Lord than it is to be around someone who is so down and listless.
How is this realization obtained? Through being in the Word, in prayer and in fellowship with other believers. By finding out what the Word says about who we ARE, then (as shared in yesterday’s blog “I am NOT, I AM”) speaking that Word over yourself on are a regular basis. Allowing It to penetrate your being until It becomes a part of you. You will know, that you know, that you KNOW who you truly are in Christ! And you will understand that NOTHING, “neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39
I’m choosing to step out of the funk and into the FOG . . . care to join me?!
