Ah, so very precious!
A newborn baby – fresh, pure, soft, adorable – you can’t help but want to pour out your affections and welcome him or her into the world.
You get close, you nuzzle into that silky skin, you inhale the newness of life . . . there is nothing sweeter!
There is nothing hindering them. No worries. No cares. No concerns. No strife. No rejection. No anger. No bitterness. Life is good – everyone seems to love them – complete acceptance, not on account of anything they did, but just because they ARE.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could all accept one another – and life – as freely as these precious gifts from God?
We can! Oh, yes . . . we CAN!
We ARE new – when we have received Christ as our Lord and Savior, He has given to us a rebirth – we are new and fresh and pure just like a newborn babe. We are loved, accepted, just because we are!
Let’s take this a few steps further – babies viewing other babies – all smiles, coos, excitement.
Wouldn’t it be phenomenal if we would look at one another like that, instead of with our ‘judgmental’ arrogance? Oh, this may touch a nerve or two with some – we, as Christians surely do not walk in judgement, do we? Well . . . rephrase it a bit, and you will understand . . . we tend to make decisions about a person by their outward appearances a lot, don’t we? Hmmmmm…..something to ponder, isn’t it?!
If we could truly ‘see’ people as God sees them – if we could look upon our brothers and sisters in Christ as the new creations they really are in God’s eyes – the judgmental attitudes would flee! We could learn to be excited, be all smiles . . . maybe not coo, but be genuinely delighted to get to know one another and share with one another this life we are living through.
But, you may argue, the people I see, the people I know are anything but ‘new, fresh, pure, sweet’ . . . that is because we live in a fallen world. The sin nature we were all born into causes a darkness all around, and even though we may walk with the Lord, our faith eyes sometimes do not extend to ‘see’ the heart as God does.
Yes, someone may have done something horrible. Yes, someone may have said some terrible things. Yes, pain may have been inflicted from so and so, BUT if they have made that decision for Christ, if they have accepted His completed work on Calvary, they ARE BRAND NEW . . . we need to let the past be the past, and look forward into the work that the Lord is doing in their lives NOW.
Not one of us are perfect. Not one of us have not done or said something to another that was wrong, causing wounding in one way or another. We still tend to make mistakes, a slip of our tongue, or the wrong attitudes we sometimes allow to sneak up and show to others.
Why can’t we seem to get over these things?!
Why is it so hard for us to be kind, accepting, loving, caring with one another at all times?
Because we are still living and walking in the ‘flesh’ more than the spirit. OUCH! This is a very hard pill to swallow, but we are a work in progress, so take heart!
He’s NEVER given up on us . . . we should never give up on others! This video clip – this powerful song – says it much better than I ever could!
As we seek Holy Spirit’s guidance, asking for God’s heart towards others, His eyes to see, His ears to hear . . . and as we daily apply His principles to our lives, we will have that paradigm shift in our thinking. We will be able to look on others with a freshness like the babies do . . . there will be nothing sweeter!
