Damaged in Shipping

WP_20140605_001Such a busy day, and then I’m sitting at my computer screen contemplating what to do on here. There was a knock on the door, a shipment I had been eagerly awaiting arrived . . . BROKEN!

This gave me an “Ah-ha” moment.

It dawned on me that as we go through this thing called ‘LIFE” how very many of us choose not to allow anything to cover us properly and thus get severely damaged along the way to our destination.

When we ship something somewhere (most of us have shipped a Christmas gift, Birthday gift, or something to a friend or relative in another state). We want it to arrive safely so we take the time to wrap it tenderly making sure the treasured gift is completely protected from the potential roughness it will encounter along the way. Then, we most likely insure it to boot!

This package that came today was the item in a flimsy box, inside another flimsy box – NO wrapping, NO bubbles, NO Styrofoam popcorn, nothing! Just the box in a box. Well, you see the results.

We all get bumped, bruised, tossed, crushed, stomped on, jostled around as we live out our lives. Some days are ‘smooth sailing’, others are anything but, God has given us His perfect wrapping and protection along our journey – IF – we choose to accept it.

When He went to the cross on Calvary, shed His blood and died, He took OUR place. His blood covers all of the of the things that we do to ourselves (our sins) – all we have to do is acknowledge Him and ask His forgiveness. It is a done deal . . . ours for the receiving . . . Oh, but then . . . He seals us, wraps us up in His love, surrounds us and indwells us with His Holy Spirit. Here His protection is internal AND external. He insures our safe arrival at our destination – our eternal Home in Heaven with Him!

The thing is, many of us choose not to acknowledge this awesome provision. We shake it off. We say “I don’t need any help!” We try to do it all ourselves – proving to God and the world that we are tough, strong, independent. Then as we hit those bumps, those hard sharp falls, or get stomped on, our protection isn’t there. Just like my package today – my soul/heart inside this fleshly body, inside this ‘tough’ exterior which offers no protection at all. We become broken – damaged. But we don’t have to be this way!

As we acknowledge Christ, His finished work on the cross AND then as we allow His Holy Spirit to permeate our being – inside and out – by staying in the Word, in prayer, in worship, in listening to His guidance and walking in obedience His protection is there! Yes, we will still have all of the hazards that come across any journey (or parcel shipment) but we are protected, secured and guaranteed a safe arrival.

I am SO grateful to the Lord for His provision! So come on bumps. Come on stomping. Come on tossing. I can handle anything because God’s Word has promised that He will NEVER leave or forsake me – He will be my source of strength – there is NOTHING that can separate us from His love!
